The 40th Annual People’s Choice Awards are airing live from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles from 8 to 10 tonight on the CBS Television Network.
The People’s Choice Awards will celebrate 40 years of fan-voted entertainment this year. Hosted by Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs from the CBS comedy “2 Broke Girls,” the People’s Choice Awards continues to be the only major awards show that empowers fans to choose their favorites across categories of movies, music and TV, according to a news release.
As previously reported, several nominees this year have Oklahoma ties, including Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith, OneRepublic and Brad Pitt:
Tishomingo resident Blake Shelton is nominated for Favorite Male Artist, alongside Avicii, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake and Michael Bublé. He is nominated for Favorite Album for his 2013 release “Based on a True Story …” and the Ada native got a nod for Favorite Country Artist. “The Voice,” on which Shelton stars as a celebrity coach, is nominated for Favorite Competition TV Show.
Checotah native Carrie Underwood also got a nomination in the Favorite Country Artist category.

Also, Shawnee-born Brad Pitt is nominated for Favorite Action Movie Star for his role in the summer zombie hit “World War Z.”

In addition, platinum-selling, Grammy Award-winning artist and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson will receive the second annual People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Humanitarian,” presented by Walgreens, during tonight’s telecast.
Hudson was chosen as this year’s recipient in recognition of her work with the Julian D. King Gift Foundation, an organization she formed in 2009 with her sister, Julia Hudson, in honor of their nephew, Julian King. The foundation works to provide stability and positive experiences for children of all backgrounds so that they may grow to become productive, confident and happy adults, able to be positive influences on their communities.
“Thank you for honoring me with the Favorite Humanitarian Award. My sister Julia and I were raised with the belief that helping others was always very important. I am so grateful that the People’s Choice Awards and Walgreens have come together in the same spirit. This spotlight will provide us with the opportunity to share all the amazing work being done by the Julian D. King Gift Foundation for children in the city of Chicago and around the United States,” stated Hudson in a news release.
